Power Quality and System Stability Training in Zambia

The Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre (KGRTC) in partnership with Unipower AB of Sweden ran a course in Power Quality and System Stability Training (PQSS) on campus in late March 2023. The course had a total of sixteen participants drawn from Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania.

The facilitators on the training programme were Dr Ebrahim Balouji of Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and Mr Russom Kebedom of Unipower.

At the end of the training programme, participants were expected to be able to monitor power quality and manage power system disturbances. Participants were also expected to be able to configure and set up power quality analysers on their respective electrical networks.

The programme was run under the Skills for Energy in Southern Africa (SESA) Project, a three-and-a-half-year intervention with the overall development objective of increasing the uptake of renewable energy, energy efficiency and regional energy integration through skills development in Zambia and the SADC region.

Through such training programmes, KGRTC is helping players in the power sector build capacity in the use of technology that helps contribute to power system reliability.
